Temps de Guerra (War Times in Valencian/Catalan) is a musical piece composed against war, all wars in all times. The text makes a reference to the ancient wars in Greek mythology, in particular Aeschylus’ tragedy “Seven Against Thebes”. Spyros Kaniaris, the composer and writer of the piece, is a Greek based in Valencia, and part of his ancestors come from Mariupol (now Ukraine, on the Black Sea). The predominant instrument is the Lyra of Pontos (Lyra of the Black Sea), an instrument played by Greeks of the Diaspora around the Black Sea. By connecting the ancient cruel wars with the current cruelty of wars, this song is a cry against injustice, destruction, hatred and hypocrisy.
